A routine wipe down on a slow day turned into a quick photo op. My small collection of ACW Carbines. None of them are "safe queen" beauties, just honest been there firearms. I reload for and shoot them all from time to time. Few more I would like to add to the collection. I'll upload a more detailed photo study of each when I get the opportunity.

Top to Bottom.
Maynard, Smith, Gallagher, Burnside, Merrill

Beautiful stock on the Gallagher!

I hope to pick up a decent carbine for a reasonable price at the show in Dalton on 1/29-30. I don't have a particular preference as it will be my first CW carbine but I do like the functionality of the Smith. But then again the less popular ones attract me too. Decisions decisions.

Thank you for sharing your fine collection

Bob and I will be set up at Dalton. Be sure to stop by and see us as I have a carbine you need to see.

Well no collection would be complete without a Sharps, so that one for sure. I have a local lead on a Gwynn and Campbell and a Starr Carbine as well, from a gentlemen down the road looking to clean out his collection. Spencer would be on that list, but those are a little more difficult to reload for, and I'm currently not set up to reload for that, so that would come later.

Thank you.

Smith is a fine first gun, and was actually my first carbine, I had a great example a few years back which I sold and immediately regretted it. It is as simplistic as they come and if you intend on shooting with it, super easy to reload.

Thanks for posting the photos. My favorite in this collection is the Smith. Your next carbine should be a Sharps. My carbine collection started with a Sharps.

I'm inspired to get one, definitely on the list. But I'm trying to let the cash burn a hole in my pocket for a while as I'm holding off for a full scale cannon 😵‍💫

A very nice start to your collection! Only about 20 more to go more than that if you get all the ones that were ordered but were not delivered till the war ended. Like the Remington split breach or the Peabody. And don't forget the muzzle loading ones like the Enfield carbine imported by the south and the Austrian carbine imported by the north. Then there are the ones never adopted by the military but were bought by solders like the Allen drop breach 44 rimfire. There was a mindboggling number of carbines used in the civil war. Thats why collecting them is so much fun. Your off to a good start. Congratulations on your collection.

Indeed it is, thank you!

Alright starting the more detailed photo's off, from the top down. Took a bunch, for most I'm sure these are old hat and nothing new, but sharing images and information is how we all learn, plus someone may catch something I haven't. Starting off with the 2nd Model Maynard, I had one previously which I foolishly sold and missed it greatly, this is the latest edition to the collection. As previously noted, none of these are sterling safe queen examples, but honest guns, which lend themselves a decent representation of their brand.

Interesting stock repair, not sure if it is CW period, but its certainly older and the wood matches nicely, just a little short on the topside where it meets the back of the metal.
