Not every thing was better 'back in the good old days'. Back then this is how you had to do your family tree.

Florence King in "Southern Ladies and Gentlemen" tells the story of a little old lady (she was writing about the fifties and sixties) who was nearly arrested for attempting a midnight disinterment of a famous grave, in order to check whether or not the corpse was related to her by looking to see if he had the family teeth deformation. She was, in the end, released, because the arresting officer had little old lady genealogists in his family as well.
