We had a "Museum Crawl" this weekend where all the Museums in town were free admission with special programs & displays. I guess I was the special display for the Aliveo Military Museum and enjoyed meeting and speaking with a myriad of good people. I spoke of coming home after the war because for me it was May 31, 1865.

What bothered me to a degree was the lack of youth coming to visit; I don't believe I saw more than ten high school or younger children come through. Though most that we did have were rather sharp. We had two pairs of twins come through that enjoyed me dressing them up in the accoutraments of the Infantry. One set seemed most interested in my blanket and thought it was odd how it was both scratchy and soft at the same time. They had never seen a wool blanket before. The other set of twins were most impressed when they understood that what I put on them would be all a soldier might carry in the field on campaign. I was impressed at how much the idea of making do with the absolute minimum caught their imagination.

When I told them the story of the twins in the Irish Brigade you could have heard a pin drop. Reactions like that are why I enjoy doing what I do.

Keep it up!!......As a teacher, I have to remind myself that, IF I spark JUST one kid's mind, then that child has a future to pursue!!.....I wish I could spark them all, but each child has their own interests, so if I can introduce something "new" to someone new, then they will also grow, learn and pass on our history.....
