would you like to have a "live debate"

if you think it might work, and a time could be settled on, we could have a live debate in the chat room. the logs are kept that we could post in a thread for review by the panel, or general members.

I also want to add, this shouldn't be used to stifle other conversations. if someone not participating in the debate wishes to also discuss the same topic, it will be allowed. we aren't in the business of control conversation, but more one of letting conversation take an organic flow.

It is a form of deleting without cluttering up the debate with post deleted messages. Technically it can be done. No one but participants should be in the debate thread.

I agree with this. At least one thread following the debate with commentary should be going. Anyone with an unique viewpoint can start their own.

Good point. The idea I presented envisions a debate playing out over days. However with preparation, a live debate in the chat room would like how normal live debates are held.

I like the idea, however, agree with Mike Sherpa that there needs to be some type of limit on the length of debate posts. We have often seen here many voluminous posts with little or no historical merit as it pertains to the topic at hand. It should be pick your best argument and present it in your own words, cite legitimate sources, don't post them.

Sounded like a good idea until the last sentence and where there might be “experts” weighing in to give their personal opinions on whether sources are reliable or myth.

Let the audience decide. If a member wants to waste their time, it will be reflected in their opinion.

Please bear in mind, the person offering to moderate wants few rules to deal with. If there is a candidate to moderate who likes a lot of rules and complexity, let him step forth.

According to the posts, one can see the problems that will be caused because of differing ideas of individuals. 4 pages
and still not an agreement, nothing but clarification discussion.

The agreement is that in the end whoever runs it makes the rules. Lots of good ideas, but no one to implement. You know my rules are just format. Number of posts and that sort of thing. Judgement left to the audience. Simple.

Let's begin. In fairness let someone else pic the topic.

So what positions need to be filled?

    Facilitator

    1-2 pro members

    1-2 con members

Each side must have equal number of members.

    Have I missed any positions?

Which is why jgood came up with the idea and there have been 4 pages of ideas discussed. He will frame his idea his way with whatever assistance we can lend and he, Mike and Ami want.

It maybe 4 pages or more of discussing but this is how you work out differences and coming to agreement. A lot of good ideas have been posted, I am sure when it is time jgoodguy will take all the ideas and mode them into a concise and effective section of rules for the debates.

The main goal is fairness to all...............

    Respectfully,

    William
