I will moderate a thread or threads that follow a format for debating an issue. I will not participate in the debate. Moderation should consist of insuring the debate format is followed. I will not judge the debate.

We will have 2 sides of equal number of members, up to 2 members per side. The members of each side can communicate in a separate thread or by PMs. A debatable proposition is presented and agreed to by both sides by PM with me and all participants. Side A is the affirmative of the debatable proposition and Side B is the negative. If both sides agree to up to 4(four) Supplemental posts and rebuttal that will be accommodated.

The format for now is. Let me know of suggestions.

Side A presents their opening Statement in a single post.
Side B presents their opening Statement in a single post.
Side A presents their rebuttal in a single post.
Side B presents their rebuttal in a single post.
Supplemental statement posts and rebuttals in the format of a statement followed by a rebuttal.
Side B asks 2 questions each in a separate post.
Side A answers the questions each in a separate post.
Side A asks 2 questions each in a separate post.
Side B answers the questions each in a separate post.
Side A makes closing statement in a single post.
Side B makes closing statement in a single post.
Up to 3 questions from the audience for each team from members other than participants. Teams may refuse to answer the question and it will be deleted by the moderator.

Posts not in the above format will be deleted.

    Suggestions.

The idea is interesting and I'd be glad to help.
Allowing the members to vote will likely always amount to side A's friends voting for side A and side B's friends voting for side B. And my God would the sore winners and losers be "lively." I would say judging should fall to 3 randomly selected hosts and moderators per debate.

Good suggestions, but who does the "randomly " selected hosts and moderators......lol

    Respectfully,

    William

lol..............An online hat ?...........I like the online spinner program ............How about the two sides pick 3 mutually agreed on hosts..........Sorta like seating a jury.......lol

A name is tossed out and the sides vote if both sides do not vote yea then that person is eliminated...........continue on until 3 are set..............then again that could take years..............:giggle: but I know several members I would feel at ease with doing the hosting.

    Respectfully,

    William

Let the individuals following the debate draw their own conclusion as to which side made the most convincing argument.

    As @W. Richardson suggested . . . a jury verdict. :smile coffee:

If no excess and undo whining and complaining comes from the usual suspects and more suspects on top of it, fine. But dealing with some of the childish behavior from supposed adults is challenging enough.

To deal with more had better come with a hike in moderator pay. :D

I like William's idea. Let the participants agree on the judges. There could be a sign-up for members willing to judge, with both sides arriving at a consensus from that list.

I like simple. Based on my experience choosing judges will be next to impossible, accusing folks of bias and such will be the rule.

Just hold the debate and see what happens. As we gain experience and acceptance, the we can add judges.

Who burnt Columbia and who was at fault...........
    Secession, legal or not.............
    Grant a butcher or not............
Was Gettysburg and Vicksburg the turning point of the war ..............
    John Brown sane or insane............
Dred Scott decision, binding or not..........
Would Non-Expansion of slavery be a death toll for slavery..........
Was Sherman's tactics in the March to the Sea justified...........

Wow..............Once those issues are settled............I say we move on and settled the world's problems

Ok then who decides on the topic. I am going for the proper way to say Lafayette. Is it LA-fay-ette or is it Lafay-ette or La-feet

Topic is decided by 1 or 2 pairs of opponents who once they have a topic, agree to debate and then PM me.

I like The South was strategically correct to secede in 1860-61.
