Well, after my $5000 near miss (posted here: https://civilwartalk.com/threads/my-5000-mistake-long-read.216423/), I was hesitant to look for a Dragoon. Fate, on the other hand, thought otherwise.
A spurious last second bid on a recent Rock Island auction netted a First Model Dragoon made in 1849. This one, without any hesitations, reservation, or regrets, is a bonafide absolutely 100% authentic First Model Dragoon. In fact, it is head and shoulders above my previous mistake. It even has some of the original cylinder scene. Even Mr. Charles Pate pronounced it A-OK!
Rather than belabor the point, let me share my unexpected but nevertheless much appreciated good fortune. Here is my 1849 First Model Dragoon!
