Trivia 5-15-18 Two Generals

General O. O. Howard lost his right arm at Seven Pines in June 1862.

General Philip Kearny lost his left arm at Churubusco during the Mexican war.

This occurred after fighting at Fair Oaks during the American Civil War, in 1862. According to Stephen W. Sears' book, Lincoln's Lieutenants:

"...The surgeons found the arm hopelessly shattered and that night amputated above the elbow. The next day, as Gen. Otis Howard waited at Fair Oaks Station to be evacuated, one-armed Gen. Phil Kearny arrived to commiserate. "General," he said, "I am sorry for you; but you must not mind it; the ladies will not think the less of you." (Kearny spoke from experience.) Howard laughed and remarked that at least they could buy their gloves together. "Sure enough!" said Kearny, and they shook on that with the hands left to them."

Jackson and Hood?

Edit - Sorry, Thomasgat, that isn't a correct answer. Jackson lost his left arm at Chancellorsville in 1863. Hood lost the use of his left arm (though it wasn't amputated) due to a wound suffered at Gettysburg after Jackson had died.

Maj Gen Philip Kearny, Jr. ( 1 June 1815 – 1 September 1862) at the time a Brig Gen, had been wounded during the Mexican War, resulting in amputation of his left arm.
