He is CSA Brigadier General Micah Jenkins. And he was mortally wounded by "friendly fire" along with Major General James Longstreet on May 6, 1864. It was almost a year to the day, in the same "Wilderness" area of Virginia and under the same circumstances that Stonewall Jackson was accidentally shot.

Brig. Gen. Micah Jenkins (1835-1864). The South Carolina native and Citadel absolvent established the King's Mountain Military School in 1855 and headed it until the civil war began. Then, well utilizing his school and social ties, he organized the 5th South Carolina Infantry Regiment. Here he is shown as its Colonel in 1861 before he switched to the gray uniform. Later he led a brigade in Longstreet's Corps, becoming a Brigadier General at the age of 26. He feuded with Evander Law about the leadership of Hood's Divsion; resulting in neither being given permanent command. He was mortally wounded at the Wilderness by the same volley of "friendly fire" that wounded Longstreet.
