The Home Guard before sending Doc and Jim with their shotguns to hold off Porters Raid in Williamsburg County SC in February 1865 . They fired two rounds and ran for their lives with Porters Pickets giving chase. I suppose the pickets took pity on them. I don't believe they could have outrun those young men. This is my recollection from reading "Porters Raid through South Carolina " by Tom Elmore.
Tom, please retell the story!
