bonus Brig. Gen. Frederick Salomon (1826-1897). A Prussian Army officer who immigrated as a sympathizer of the 48ers. He commanded the 9th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment and received his star in 1862; serving as brigade and division commander in the Trans-Mississippi. After the war the brother of Governor Edward Salomon was brevetted Major General and became a surveyor. He probably was the highest-ranking Jewish officer in the Union Army.
