Boah, @War Horse , that was a tricky question !!! :D :D :D

I had already answered that I knew it from the top of my head and it must be Ft. Thomas, Kentucky, named after George Henry Thomas, the "Rock of Chickamauga" ... when I noticed ... George Henry Thomas was a Union general and born in Virginia ...

So I had to rely on Google once more ...
And here comes the correct answer:

That is Fort Benning, near Columbus, Georgia, named after Henry L. Benning, nicknamed "Old Rock"

Lt. General John Brown Gordon. He was born in Georgia and did study law and practiced for a time.

During Civil War he was much liked by General Lee.

Fort Gordon in Georgia is named after him. Fort Gordon is the home of Army's Signal Corp and Signal Center.

Edit - Gordon did pass the bar exam in Georgia, but I can't find any source indicating that Lee ever referred to him as "Rock."
