I have a quote by a Confederate general that acknowledged the bravery of the 1st Arkansas Cavalry Union at the battle of Fayetteville. If you like I can bump up that thread. If you goggle " First Arkansas Cavalry Union" there is an article from a history professor on the 2st. Many of the 1sr Ark were Confederate defectors.

I couldn't find the article by the professor. I did find and article from the encyclopedia of arkansas.gov. The Ozarks were rough on horses and by September 1864 the 1st was
down to 104 horses for over 500men Present for Duty.

I have another thread that discuses a counterinsurgency technique used by Colonel Harrison still in use today. I can bump that thread if you like.

"Originally identified as the 1st Arkansas Light Artillery Battery (Union), Fayetteville, 1864, further research by a local Civil War historian has identified this image as a section of the 1st Arkansas Cavalry (Union) with their mountain howitzers. The Light Artillery used a different kind of gun. One researcher notes that the image is reversed, citing the atypical positioning of the gun crews. Washington County Historical Society Collection (P-1534)"
