I received the musket below from my father in law and have been trying to investigate what it actually is. I believe it is an 1863 model manufactured in 1865, but I took it to someone to take a look at it and they found it to be odd in that it was in .45 caliber vs .58 caliber. There are a few marks on it as well, including numbers and what appears to be a V. Any ideas??

By the way, it is not a breach load, it is a snap cap model.
Could you post some photos of the whole gun and the muzzle end and any markings down at the left hand side of the breach end?

To me it looks like an M1864 that has either been sleeved to .45 or had a .45 barrel put on it. Someone made up some .45 cal barrels in the 70’s the thinking being that .45 bullets were more common than .58. If it’s sleeved that’s another matter, could have been done at anytime.

remember that CENTUARY ARMS years made a 45 CAL, drop in barrel for original CIVIL WAR SPRINGFIELDS. my friend ha one. shoots great ha 5 grove riffling I be leave? they were very popular at the time.
Thank you, for the life of me I couldn't recall the maker.

the 45 CAL, ML. barrel would also drop into a 45/70 SPRINGFIEL RIFLL stock with out any alteration. two guns in one!.

if you mean me ? no I cant because I don't have any of them to post. as stated, I don't have them.
