Picked up this marked 1864 Springfield with a US marked shoulder plate. The barrel is 42 inches long with gold leaf. Is this real or a reproduction? Any info appreciated - Thanks Fred

Most importantly, are there any proof marks on the barrel? Have you dismounted it? Is it still .58 caliber? the barrel looks European to me.

Hi thank you all for your review. There are no proof Marks on the 42 inch long barrel. I have included a rear view of the lock plate.

Fred when you say "picked up" I hope means you didn't spend too much money on that or got it for free?

I have no idea where the barrel was made, but it's not a Springfield. I suspect it may be from the Middle-East or Afghanistan but that's just a guess. The hammer is from a civilian rifle or shotgun.
