Very nice looking Colt musket. Apparently a number of these were never issued and found their way to the surplus souvenir market years after the Civil War. Here is a page from a reprint of a catalog by Charles J. Godfrey. Don't you wish you could travel back in time and buy a bunch of these at $2.50 each?

Awesome looking musket.
I think that bit of discoloration on the lock on either side of the hammer is nothing more than dried out oil and could be easily removed.

What do you suppose are these "secret societies" mentioned in this ad?

I immediately thought of colorguard units for the various Mason societies, but I guess it could also apply to more "militant" groups like KKK or the earlier Fenians.
