I have an 1860 sword that was marked with the "LD" stamp on the end of the pommel, as well as later matching numbers from Arsenal rebuilds to keep the parts together. I learned that L. Dustin only inspected one named contractor, but the sword makers name appears to be polished off. Anybody got any ideas on this condition?

Looks like it is a Mansfield & Lamb. If you could post a side view of the entire grip it would help really nail it down but I going M&L.

A very historical wealthy local family had this sword displayed in the museum family home. During recent renovations to the home one of the descendants decided the old sword was to be sold to the pawn shop. I bought it.

Just a side note in 1863 Lewis Draper purchased arms and parts for the US Army.

Of course if that blade has been rehilted it may not be from a Mansfield & Lamb. However, if it's been rehilted or just had the grip replaced it appears to have been done during the war to get it back in service. So it would seem a safe bet that it saw action.
