Hi,

I have this sword and its kind of a mystery to me. It appears to be a Model 1860 staff officer's sword. There is no manufacturing mark and no marks or decoration on the blade. Sword measures 35.5 inches. The scabbard is very odd and doesn't have the loops that other model 1860's have. Any help is appreciated.

These became regulation for most of the officers of the U.S. Army in 1872 and remained so until the adoption of the M. 1902, so were manufactured for decades. They were also copied for use by members of the National and State Guards and many Fraternal organizations. Yours is almost certainly one of these cheap copies made around the turn-of-the-century, possibly even post-1902, therefore certain features of the regulation military-used ones were changed or omitted altogether.
