Hey guys I've been looking for a decent forage cap and I found this one on 1st Alabama cavalry website. Im by no means an expert on these things so I wanted to know what y'all thought. To me, part of the chinstrap looks way too thick and the label sticker looks a little too new compared to the sweat band. What are y'all thoughts? Any red flags?

It looks good to me, one needs to consider that most of these are surplus and as such the label will remain in decent shape, while the sweat band will flake due to composition. The only comment I might make and it is only because I do not have it in my hands, but the sweatband should have a check pattern imprinted in the leather.

I have posted a "What to look for" some years ago, if you can find it, but this one seems to have most of what one wants to see.

I would make sure you are offered an inspection period just to be sure.

Thanks package4! I didn't think to look for the check pattern on the sweatband. I tried zooming in on the pictures just a minute ago and couldn't see the pattern but it could be different in person.

Well I'm now expert, but it look great. 1st Alabama is a great guy and I've purchased 2 fed caps from him. He was my first too haha. He knows his stuff and doesn't peddle junk if you're worried. The chinstrap looks as it should. @Package4 is who I contacted on this forum for the green light
Thanks for your input sir!

Jeff is a nice guy and has a little section of goods in an antique store in Franklin TN in addition to his website. He guarantees his items as well. The inner tag looks good as well and can be found on a nice amount of surplus headgear.
Thanks for spending time to look at the cap for me!

I love the forage caps! This looks nice. I looked at the photos of the headband a couple of times and I thought I could see remains of a checkered pattern? It may be checkered but not show up in photos well?
I think you're right, there does appear to be a check pattern in the pictures. I'm sure more detailed photos would show the pattern better
