Colonel Tyree Bell later joined up with the cavalry. General Forrest sent him and his staff up into West Tennessee in December 1863 to gather up the bands of regiments and recruit new troops. He would later command a brigade in General N. B. Forrest's cavalry division. After the War, he eventually settled in Fresno County, California.
