Recently learned of two relatives who I believe served in the 12th Kentucky Calvary CSA. Both were assigned to Company H possibly. One is William Livingston Paris (Parrish) --spelling may vary and the other is Jonathan Fletcher Ford or JF Ford. Any info on the unit or the men would be appreciated. Both were from Gibson County Tennessee.

J.F. Ford enlisted 1 Dec 1863 in West Tennessee,as a private in Co. F, 12th Ky Cavalry. "Left sick in West Tenn(essee) on Surg(eon) certif.(icate) April 24th 1864." His final record appears to be on 30 June 1864. Final rank was private.

There was also a J.F. Ford who enlisted in the 1st Tenn Cavalry in April, 1862, 33 years old at that time, whose record ends in January, 1863. Could it be that your relative was in this unit first, and later enlisted in the 12th Ky Cavalry? Just speculating, of course.

There was a Corporal William Paris, 44th Tennessee Infantry, killed at the Battle of Perryville, 8 Oct 1862. Enlisted 19 Dec 1861.
Otherwise, I'm not seeing a Paris or Parrish in Kentucky. There appear to be some in Missouri and Texas. Hopefully, someone else can find him for you.

There is a W L Parris in Company F of the 12th KY. The name also appears as Pairs in the records.

He enlisted as a private in West Tennessee December 1, 1863. He's on a muster roll dated June 30, 1864 with pay due from enlistment. He's on the list of prisoners paroled at Brownsville, TN dated May 31, 1865. There's also a medical card for him, showing he was admitted to the 1st Mississippi CSA hospital July 13, 1864. He left the hospital July 26 - the diagnosis is "febris remittens" (basically a high, fluctuating fever). There are no other records for him at Fold3.

I do not see that either filed for a pension in Gibson County - did they remain in the area? There are several Parrish pension applications.

This is great information. I believe this WL Parris is my gggg grandmothers brother. Her other brother was Henry S Paris who served in the 7th Tennessee USA cavalry. So truly a brother vs brother situation. Henry died at camp Lawton and has a marker at bothe Andersonville and Beufort National Cemetery (although his name is spelled PARRISH there). I have confirmed that bodies were excavated from Camp Lawton in Millen Ga. and moved to the National Cemetery in SC.

Thanks for the info and if you know of anything else id appreciate it

I'm glad this was helpful. It may be worth looking for pension applications at the Tennessee website if you know which county they lived in after the War.
