My father commanded the ironclad gunboat, USS St. Louis, during the Civil War. In 1912, I temporarily commanded the Department of Hawaii as a Colonel of the 1st Infantry Regiment. In 1913, my daughter, Isabel, married the son of one of the most famous generals of the Union Army, who happened to share his fathers name. Who am I?

His father was Lieutenant Wilson McGunnegle USN who commanded the USS St. Louis.
His daughter Isabel Ray McGunnegle Sheridan Perkins married Philip Sheridan, Jr. Philip died of a heart attack at 37 due to complications from diabetes and hereditary coronary disease leaving Isabel a widow behind with 2 children.

George K. McGunnegle (1854-1938), son of Lt. Commander Wilson McGunnegle (1829-1863). His daughter, Isabel (1885-1858), was the wife of Philip Sheridan, Jr. (1880-1918).
