In 1863 JEB Stuart's cavalry were on a reconnaissance. They encountered and battled some Union troops but then found themselves sandwiched between two Union Corps. The Rebels, some 3000 troops, horses and equipment, hid in a wooded ravine overnight and sent for help. Within earshot of a Union bivouac, Stuart's men managed to evade detection. General Lee sent help and the next day a second battle occurred that ended in a stalemate. JEB Stuart's men escaped.
Give 1) the common name(s) for the two battles
