I like the one's of Sherman they have. Im sure some of the better researchers here on the board could tell you if the color of the jackets should be deeper blue or other small, but important details that you could do to the picture that the ones they have do not. The devil is in the details, but that is what makes the difference.

I like what you have done. Follow the board and take note of the posters that are expert in certain areas. If you are working on a subject, take your time. Pm a certain poster who seems to have knowledge of an area you have a question on if you have to. The reenactor group would be good for colors of uniforms, the weapons posters for that sort of thing. Nobody on here knows everything, I will Pay for that remark, but as a group, everything you need to know can be found here. Good luck and I will follow your progress.

Not my area of expertise, Zuzah, Wilber is the best on photography on here I have seen, but for a shortcut, hit forums and go to the reenactor threads. PM one of those folks. They are really your best source on uniforms and any of them would be pleased to help you. Ted.

After you get more into the study of the people of that time, you may be suprised at how much we are the same. I get into books written by the people that lived the CW. Pick up some memoir books, Grant, Sherman, Longstreet, and others. I learned a lot about the people from reading these.
I have been contemplating that. Grant especially intruiges me, same with Lincoln and Davis. Any books you'd recommend specifically?
I very much enjoyed Grant's memoirs as well as Sherman's and Longstreet. A short but very interesting book is Three Months in the south by Aurther Freemantle. If you saw the movie Gettysburg, he was the British observer traveling with Lee. that book is mostly excerpts from his daily diary.

The 1993 version. Get the bluray version as it has restored deleted scenes important to the history.. It is over 4 hours but for a movie very accurate on the history for a movie. We on here have found a few things but my all time favorite movie, and a lot of reenactors in the cast. Some of them on this board. If you are going to be good at Civil War art you have to do the research. Know your subject. You are young and have plenty of time if your interest does not wain. Get to work. I have been told the actor that played John Bell Hood in that movie is a member of this board. His name is Patrick Gorham. I know I mispelled his last name, but this close to bedtime im not looking it up. Somebody will correct it for me. Also I would say there are some reenactors on this board that were in Gods And Generals as it was done later by the same Ted Turner people that did Gettysburg. Again I suggest the Bluray version as they restored deleted scenes. Gettysburg is my favorite but I like both.Sure thing man. Thanks - again.
