Does anybody have any recommendations for books on the Mormon Battalion during the Mexican War?

Googling, I found these. The third was a finalist for the Spur Award! Haven't read any of them, however.

Bigler and Bagley have written a lot about the era of Church history after Brigham Young succeeded Joseph Smith and led the LDS to Utah/Deseret.

Neither am I (nor are the two authors I mentioned) but the Mormon Battalion is an integral part of the Church's early history under Young and I find that history - including the Battalion - very interesting.

Yep - and several authors have covered that (along with the State archaeologist despite political pressure).

Neither am I (nor are the two authors I mentioned) but the Mormon Battalion is an integral part of the Church's early history under Young and I find that history - including the Battalion - very interesting.

I've actually never heard of the Moron Battalion, but I've been into the LDS for a while, being a Wild West loon (it's the sister event to this crud anyway.)

Does anybody have any recommendations for books on the Mormon Battalion during the Mexican War?

I have to use this opportunity to shed light on an ancestor of mine, Gilbert Montier Lafayette Bickmore.

According to the funeral records, Gilbert is buried in the Arroyo Grande Cem. His grave is unmarked and the sexton's records for that year are lost. He married Catherine J Huntsman, joined the Mormon Battalion in 1846 and helped to establish the first wagon road to California during the War with Mexico. He lived in Santa Cruz and Gonzales, CA before moving to Arroyo Grande. Children: Eliza Ann, b 1851 near Council Bluffs, IA; Amanda, b 1854 CA; Christina, b 1860 CA; Gilbert, b 1864 Santa Cruz, CA; William, b 1870 CA.

So, true Mormons can have several wives, correct? We know there are accounts of women following their husbands or sweethearts into the army posing as men. Theoretically, a Mormon unit could have almost a haram of females in their ranks. just a thought...
