I visit a lot of cemeteries taking pictures of graves of Generals, Statesmen, Colonels, Surgeons and Naval Officers. I have found some cemeteries have graves easy to locate and some it can take you up to 2 days to find graves you might be searching for especially the ones who don't offer maps or have maps available. I find that if I am locating a certain grave findagrave can sometimes help but not always. I have some cemeteries that have stood out in memory due to their beauty such as Arlington National Cemetery, Texas State Cemetery, Elmwood Cemetery (Memphis) and Hollywood Cemetery those are some that have been memorable for me. Some cemeteries can be hard to visit due to overgrowth or just being not well maintained. My question is for those who enjoy visiting cemeteries to take photographs what has been your memorable cemeteries you have visited and which ones have proven hard for you?

I love visiting cemeteries - though that's a highly seasonal activity here in Upstate New York. I especially love the old Victorian cemeteries that were designed to have park like settings. I think the loveliest of those I've seen is Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Mass. Another that I've loved visiting is the cemetery at West Point; it is just beautiful. The hard ones for me are any where the stones are fallen and the grounds are neglected - that just hurts.

My favorite by far is Shiloh National Military Park! The whole Park is a cemetery as over 3,500 men died and were buried after the battlel. The National Cemetery is a beautiful 10 acre well maintained property with 3,500 plus civil war graves.

I must also state I love the old community cemeteries that are all over Lafayette County, most of which contain less than 250 graves. The various symbols, last names and inscriptions add to the enjoyment.

I made a thread about this last year, but locating the Lee Family Cemetery in the so-called Four Corners region of North Texas was quite a challenge: The Lee - Peacock Feud In Northeast Texas, 1867 - 71 | Post-War Reconstruction (April 1865-1868) (civilwartalk.com)
