Friends, I have some news to share, and I hope to see some of you there...

At 7:00 PM on Saturday, March 21, 2020, I will be the keynote speaker at an event at my alma mater, Dickinson College. The event will be held in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium on the Dickinson campus. Admission is free!

Specifically, I've been asked to deliver the second annual J. Howard Wert lecture, which will be titled "Battling the Myths of Gettysburg." And I get to deliver the lecture using the very lectern used by Abraham Lincoln to deliver the Gettysburg Address! How cool is that? I get chills just thinking about it.

Given that I was not a history major and have no degree in history, it's really an honor to be asked to deliver such an address, and the fact that it was my alma mater that asked me to do so means the world to me. Thank you to Professor Matt Pinsker for the invitation--I'm really looking forward to it.

This means that Lincoln will niow become the second most prominent person to use it. The only question is whether the talk will take longer than Edward Everett's oratory from that same lectern. Seriously, this is a significant honor.

LOL. No doubt.

Yes, it is a significant honor, particularly since I lack formal training as a historian.

Bravo! 👏

I wish I could be there! All I can say is... don't wash you hands after you handle the lectern, ever! :bounce:

I have a friend that participated in the Easter egg roll on the White House lawn during the Eisenhower administration. When Ike shook his hand, he wouldn't let his mother wash his hand for a week!

@Eric Wittenberg ,

I am in no way surprised that you would be invited to give such a speech at such a location. You will do well, as you always have done well, when speaking about this important period in our nation's history.

There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that you will do your very best. (No pressure, eh?)

Enjoy yourself, my friend, and create a memory for yourself that will always bring joy to your heart and soul.

God Bless.

Sincerely,
Unionblue

Congratulations.

For those of us who cannot make it in person, will the lecture be available online?

Thank you for those very kind words, Neil. They mean a lot to me.

Ive never had the good fortune to meet you in person but I've read a few of your books and I know that you are greatly respected by everyone here at CWT, the hard work and effort that you put into your research is inspirational. I wish you all the best for your lecture.

Thank you! It's much appreciated.

I will be speaking in your part of the world in April....
