Worth Keeping?

Does anyone think this could be a 19th century picture or frame? The lady is so pretty- sometimes I think it is a photo, but sometimes a painting. Any thoughts welcomed.

Can't speak to the age of the frame or photo but that is definitely a picture worth keeping, in my opinion.

A very pretty lady in a picture very nicely done!

I'd keep it. It is pretty and nicely framed. There was a time when photographs were hand-painted to add color. If you need to date it, why not take it into the art dept. of a large university (if you have one nearby) or get an oral appraisal (done in my area for free) from an authority or antique dealer?

No university nearby, but lots of antique stores. I'll call around to see if they would consider looking at it. Thanks!

If you are told that it is a real piece of junk and that, for a slight fee, they'll take it off your hands--you've got your answer!

The paper on the back of the frame suggests that it's been professionally framed in the fairly recent past. So someone clearly thought that it was worth the expense of having that done - custom framing isn't cheap! The frame itself is modern. See that little triangle clip holding in the picture? That's a modern innovation. I don't think it's a photograph, colored antique photos rarely look that good. It may be a print or a painting. Try examining it with a strong magnifying glass and see if you can make out tiny dots (a print) or brush strokes (a painting).

I'd say, if it brings you pleasure, it's definitely worth keeping.

Whatever you do don't sell it or get rid of it until you've had it properly appraised, there's a lot of unscrupulous people out there that would offer you a pittance for it. As others have said, if you like it then keep it.

No signature that I can see. I've looked online to see if maybe it is a well known print or painting but haven't turned up anything yet. Honestly, I just like looking at her, whoever she is!

The guest bedroom seems to be the designated home for my treasures so I'm thinking I can find a place for her in there.
