Hey, I found a ... *counts on fingers* great-great-great-grandpa in the Missouri militia (as they all are!) Here's the second card for William Doss -- the first card didn't download correctly for some reason so I'm looking it up again.

He enlisted at 42 years old, and rode a horse up and down those Missouri hills. whew! Tough guy.

I did find a muster roll someplace that says he was from Campbell, Virginia, and was a blacksmith. The Doss family genealogist says that if I can verify that he's from Campbell, then she might be able to link him with the Dosses that came across the sea! Right now William Doss is a brick wall, because in those days EVERYBODY WAS NAMED WILLIAM. even the women.

So nice that Fold3 is free!

I just started my genealogy a few months back and I swear I have so many "John's" it drives me crazy. I have several "John's" who named their child "John B" and the next "John R".... Not very creative.

Good luck in your search!!
