My dad was able to relic hunt a subdivision smack in the middle of the Wilderness battlefield during the 1990s. These were his finds from a Union trench, minus all of the dropped three ringers.

Nice Reb bullets. I also detected in the woods of the Wilderness in 1970 when
I got my metrotech detector. I found a couple hundred bullets, Reb, and Yank,
and a couple plates, etc. Great fun. Today I am too old to go alone out in
that deep a woods! Thanks for posting!

Maybe someone can give some insight into those flattened ones. I have one from Port Hudson and it puzzles me a bit. Ran over by a wagon or cannon carriage?

Lead is a funny thing. It creates some of the most bizarre and fascinating patterns when struck at high speeds. These were fired, though I do have some that were run over.

I meant flattened ones like the one in the middle. How do you know it was fired?

It was found in an actual battle area, where rebels were firing at Union troops near a trenchline.

That still doesn't tell me how one knows it was fired just by looking at it. I am a novice. I am just trying out how you can tell a bullet that has been flattened from the side has been fired.

If it was fired, some indication of rifling marks should still be present.

Front row, far left looks like it was run over, 4th from left looks like I can see rifling, may have hit something and tumbled (they were in the Wilderness right).

My brother and I are rooting for Corey Lajoie in the 32 car. I'm a Kyle Busch fan myself though.
