The direct line for my family tree has my gg grandfather and several of his brothers serving with the 22nd Virginia Cavalry. From what I know about this outfit it seems to be more of an irregular or maybe even a guerilla-type of unit vs. a more mainstream one (but I could be wrong on that). What I would like to try to find out is what weapons they were issued, assuming they were issued weapons at all vs. using whatever they already had.

As a tribute to them, I'd like to acquire an example of what they used. I've looked for diaries, etc. in hopes that it might reveal some info but so far no luck in learning anything about their weapons (and not much more about the unit as a whole).

Thought I'd try here given that the tag line says Questions? Ask Here! No Stone Left Unturned." So, any stone turners able to shed any light on this one? Thanks!

Yes, sometimes it is difficult to decide where to place a post. I thought it should go in Small Arms & Ammunition but your question is really asking for information on the regiment. There should be a Moderator drop by soon who may decide to move it.

Good luck.
