Wickham Hammer

On one of my Wickham M1822/28 locks, it has this strange hammer. Looks like M1855 hammer but the thumb piece or spur looks taller
and there is no shield or crosshatching on it.

Any ideas?

I think this is one of the conversions for NJ that had the rounded bolster.

I think you are right. The hammer in that conversion was shaped like a M1855. Weird though that it does not have a shield or cross-hatching. It is totally smooth. This looks like the Hewes & Philip Type 1 conversion with the hammer and the small piece of brass where the front of the pan used to be.

looks to me like the spur was broken off and a new one welded back on. if you look at the spur where it meats the hammer there is a difference in the color of the metal and the spur looks like it has been grown on. May be wrong but that is what i see.

Here is the spur through a microscope. I don't see any obvious cracks or any indication it was welded. I am going to clean it up better in that area today and see if anything is obvious.
