Whitney Navy Revolver

My .36 caliber Whitney Navy revolver, second model, third type, serial #80XX, manufactured in 1862. All matching numbers, including the grips. Action is a little loose but fully functional. Not much finish left. No martial markings. Bore is dark but rifling is visible. Just a good solid example of a fine revolver design. Got it at the Chattanooga, TN. Relic Show back in July, 2019.

This was my first CW pistol a .36 Whitney Navy w/ CSA holster. Many years ago.

Appears to have a grip big enough the shooter could hang onto it and pretty nice balance. I can see where the Colt Peacemaker might have gotten influenced by this design down the road : )

In some ways better than Colt or Remington. Like the Remington, It had a top to the frame but was lighter and more smooth in its design. Of course, it was a .36 and not a .44. It did transition though to the CF as did Colt and Remington. There were a few conversions though not many and were mostly by gunsmiths. Eli Whitney Jr. was not as good of salesman as the firms of Colt, Remington and Smith & Wesson.
