This item was found in a Confederate picket post near Canton, GA. When I found my first artifact in this camp, I was actually looking for arrowheads near the Etowah River. That first artifact was a 58 cal roundball: followed by a Gardener bullet on my next trip (still trying to eyeball arrowheads)! After many metal detecting trips, I had found Gardners, Enfields, Colts, 54 cal Minies, and numerous buckshot (along flat buttons and miscellaneous gear). Enough rambling!!

After much research, the only similar item I could find was an early militia cross belt plate. 1 3/4X2 3/4. What do y'all think?
