The variety of expertise at CivilWarTalk is really impressive - it's only matched by the variety of information people posting questions want to find answers for. After hosting the Researching Your Civil War Ancestry forum for about a year, I've got a good idea who to tag for some questions. But all too often a new post comes up that hits at an issue I am in no way ready to answer on my own. Figuring out who knows what can be tough so I thought I'd ask the many talented members of CWT to help me out. If you feel you know enough about a Civil War topic - something that interested you enough that you've made it a point to learn about it - to help out a person asking for more information, would you tell me in a reply? I'm not looking for people who know everything about everything - just folks who feel they can assist in answering questions when they arise. That way when some thing comes up (just this week it was an post about Texas State Troops), I know who to tag for advice and assistance.

Thanks in advance -

@lupaglupa

Wm T Wofford and Wofford's brigade (16th, 18th and 24th Georgia, Cobbs and Phillip's Legions.) I can usually help with most Georgia regiments and sometimes with regiments from Kershaw's brigade. I'm starting to learn a little bit about SC photographers - Wearn & Hix of Columbia and George S Cook and Charles J Quinby of Charleston.

The best book I own on SC photogs is "Partners with the Sun" by an acquaintance of mine, Harvey S. Teal. Copies are available on abebooks.com for less than ten bucks. I have several dags by George Cook's studio, as well as a book about his life (can't think of the title right now). I also have a Mexican War dag of a great-grandfather of mine, in his militia uniform.

Darn, I was trying to reply to lelliott19, and somehow it went to the bottom of replies

You certainly are more knowlegeable about any of those topics than I! The Period Photos for example needs a Forum Host. I belive you would do very well bringing that Forum back as you did with your thread about the 3 Confederate's photo last week
You can always try and then stop if it is not enjoyeable. You cannot possible screw up any worse than I do!!

David

I've gotten pretty good at researching individual soldiers and their families using a combination of Ancestry, fold3, NPS database and FindAGrave.

I must have missed that thread. Ancestry is a good source for Texas State Troops personal information. The muster records of TST veterans are sourced in Ancestry.
