It lives on....Agree re the Fundies. The whole Mountain Meadows/John Lee matter was a consequence of the extreme paranoia (somewhat understandable) and isolation mentality that resulted from what happened in Nauvoo and Young's response. The paranoia went off the rails in 1857 and then got wrapped up in the coverup until the Church began focusing on the possibility of statehood for "Deseret". At that point Lee became "expendable" in exchange for a larger return.
