Weird Chevron

Somewhere on Henry Hudson's river.
I found this photo on Pinterest, of a Confederate soldier. What stuck out to me was his chevron, which looks like a combination between a first sergeant, and a company quartermaster sergeant.

That's a cool image, he certainly wouldn't be taking on both jobs. The 1st sergeant, AKA Orderly sergeant, was a full job, arguably the most important position at the company level. If I were to guess he sewed those on and added a little embellishment to it. Confederate chevrons were just individual strips of clothe usually sewn on by the individual or if lucky they had a tailor in the company. Or he could've had the jacket privately made including chevrons. They weren't pre-made on backing like Federal chevrons.
