I ran across this website: Black Confederate Soldiers today. Apparently they are going through the muster rolls as found in official records and other places and trying to put together lists of Blacks in the Confederate Army. From the very small list that I see they've gathered so far, it appears that most of the Black Confederates were what we already knew, musicians, drummers, cooks, body servants, etc. There are a few however that are listed as privates. They also appears to have another section, that I didn't look at that has black men who actually received Confederate Pensions. I think it will be interesting to see what the research finds when completed. I also think it may be a good resource to have to document the the service of these men in whatever the capacity. It might also be good information for genealogy research as well.

The website is: http://blackconfederatesoldiers.com/soldier_records_for_black_confederates_50.html
