What worked? We could have won it without such allies and it is coming back to haunt us now. I'm of the mind of Patton, march through and make war on the Communists. Even he saw who was the real enemy. It is possible to be against both the nazis and communists. And an open mind sees that the communists were worse.

Had to look at what was being said - I'm not sure we would have won without the bomb. The Japanese held many hundreds of thousands of people they would certainly have killed - they showed that by clearing entire islands in the Pacific of their people and I don't mean by moving them somewhere else. It was a psychopathic ideology that somehow got ahold of Germany and Japan. Communism is bad but not psychotic. As it was, the second bomb on Nagasaki got Stalin's attention. He didn't know how many more we'd made. That old sinner was ready to gobble up everything he could - eastern Europe was just an appetizer. He understood a clop in the chops and he did not want Moscow incinerated when he hadn't anything to incinerate Washington. And...we all know where THAT went.

Retribution on this scale was simply impossible during the CW. There is just plain no possible comparison to 19th century and 20th century horrors. You could turn both armies loose on the population to kill every living body they saw, and it would never approach anywhere near what's being discussed.

The Japanese were just as bad. In 1931 Japan invaded Manchuria set up the medical experiments Unit 731 at Harbin. In 1937 Japan invades China rapes Nanking and killed 19 million Chinese, 16 million civilians. Japan went on to invade Indo-China, India, Burma, and the Philippines killing millions. Prisoners of War had 500% greater chance of dying in a Japanese prison than in a German prison. When Japan was finally defeated it had killed 50 million.
