Have we had a real discussion about Civil War volley guns?

Volley guns have a long history starting in 1339. Some volley guns were used in the Civil War. Why were these volley guns not any more widely used?

How about mitrailleuse style volley guns?

Interesting guns but I agree with BillO, a Napoleon with canister would have been more effective and more practical.

l have seen photos of reenactors with volley guns so they must have been "widely" used.

I'm thinking the Volley gun would have been displaced by Dr. Gatling's invention- with it's descendants still in use today.
