What is this? Volcanic bullets..?

I've got a couple of these types of bullets I've found , I assumed they were post war but looking through the M&M book I noticed the same ones , or extremely similar. Can anyone help me for sure know that these are volcanic pistol bullets and the rarity of these? The base measures .31 on both shown in the pictures.

Judging from the patina, design and caliber, this looks to me to be Civil War era.

It appears as some kind of .31 caliber for a pocket revolver. What is its length?

Am no expert though.

You might have to wait for responses from some of the more knowledgable people reading this thread.
 
Unfortunately, despite being in the case with the pistol, the ammunition has deteriorated over he last 160+ years. The brass bases of some of the rounds have become detached and they are to be seen at the bottom of the picture.
