Will be in Ashburn VA in September and will be making my pilgrimage to Gettysburg at some point.

Can't wait to renew my passion for this place and use the information on here to get more out of the visit this time.

Funny story, I was visiting there 11 years ago and had just got there. I was walking through the town and my head was in the clouds. I was just so taken aback by just the town and was thinking of what it was like at the time of the battle. I had read a few markers around the area. Someone had pointed up at a cupola and said Robert E Lee had stood up there and observed the battle. And it was July 1st and we had talked about what was going on right at that moment in 1863. So I was walking along in that mood when modernity started to push it's way into my brain. I heard it coming up from behind me, a low muffle then louder, it was a loud exhaust on a car and at that moment as it kept getting louder I started thinking how real people lived there today and as that car was passing me this girl stuck her head out the window and yelled at me, "Hey, show us you d***" Boom! Kind of threw me back, lol. But I kept walking up to Cemetary Hill and was back in the zone in no time.

Actually, on July 1 it was Union General John Buford who was up in the cupola observing the fighting.

Moving to Campfire Chat! (While it pertains to a historical visit, it is NOT historic in nature :P)
