I used to visit a couple times a year at minimum. It's been closed for the last 2+ years. It recently reopened, & I had a few moments to stop by today. Here's a pic I took walking to the front door:

They had a security guard standing at the door, & one inside. Once inside I was shocked at how white washed it was.....

Everything relating to Lee inside the chapel has been removed. The picture of Lee, picture of Washington, the plaques on the walls, even the one that denoted what pew Lee sat in is gone. The Docent seemed quite happy about all of this.

The gift shop is gone. It's been replaced with a "gallery". Has some portraits on the walls. A couple of Lee, & some fellas you've never heard of.

The museum was closed. I asked when it was going to reopen, & was told, maybe never. "It is being remodeled. Plus, they have so many items they can't display that, they are considering a separate museum in another location."

The only thing that appeared untouched from my last visit a few years ago, Lee's office. It looked the same.

I was pretty disappointed to say the least.
