I'm curious, so here's a question for reenactors, specifically for the older reenactors, even retired who may know more than anyone.
Why has there been no real concerted efforts to reenact the Siege of Vicksburg or several of the other battles of the campaign?
I know some may point out the fairly regular Living History's that happen at the National Park, but I wonder why no big reenactments. Once upon a time an older, now retired officer friend, told me how they used to have reenactments on an original piece of the battlefield before the NPS scooped it up, (not saying that's a bad thing), and tried to reenact the siege nearby, to which he told me that somehow or other the opposing trenches were dug WAY to close to each other, (I was told they had to use walkie talkies to tell each other which side was gonna fire to prevent accidents). It seems odd to me that no one has attempted to reenact such a pivotal time in the War, at least in time I've reenacted, (coming up on 14 years now), I know some attempt was made during the 150th, I think in Raymond, but it seems odd to me no serious attempt has been made, that I've heard of at least. Does anyone know the answer to this question? Cus I don't.
Also if any of the older reenactors have stories of the events I've heard of, I'd like to hear them, Lord knows I enjoy hearing tales of reenactments before my time.
