I can remember going there in July many years ago and watching a group of Confederate artillery playing cards outside their bunker. It had to be 98 in the shade.

Many years ago I took part in a reenactment of the surrender of Vicksburg in the National Military Park on July 4th. I had weighed myself before I left the house, and when I got back, I was five pounds lighter. I had sweated so much that my uniform was wringing wet.
