Alan Polk and I did a tour that included rough roads, swamps, Port Gibson, the Bethel Church and the Windsor Ruins.
Unfortunately I lost some of these photos. He supplied me with his photos of some of the roadside signs we saw. I got photos of Bethel Church, Port Gibson and the Windsor Ruins from Trip Advisor.
Progress is being made on the Windsor Ruins. The state is building a parking lot right now. Still, there was an old sign out on the road before the Ruins, misdirecting traffic. So much more could be done with these sites but nothing has changed in a long time. We didn't make it to the Shaifer House.

I want to thank Alan Polk for a wonderful tour. The views of the city are from 10 South where I took Alan and his wife to dinner. Thank you. I would have never seen all these places without your help. There is so much to see in this area and it is a shame that the state does not make it easy or accessible.

I enjoyed our adventure as well. I hope you got to see what you wanted to see. The campaign is very spread out and it's almost impossible to see everything. Glad you made it back home safely.

If you were with @alan polk you were in great hands. The 10 Top is my favorite restaurant/bar. If you make it to the Old Court Hose Museum be sure to check out the McCardle room. Thats my GGG Grandfather.

Have you gone you to the Vicksburg Civil War Museum? Charles has done a GREAT job with that museum.

Yes, that is the museum I mentioned that showed the slavery perspective. I had the name incorrect. I will correct it. I enjoyed talking to Charles and seeing his displays, artifacts and videos. I spent about an hour in there. I think it is important to show the slavery and reconstruction perspective and he did it in a different way than we usually see in the National Parks. We discussed the potential impact on the area if the federal government ever increases the park area. He was guardedly hopeful like most people.

We visited the Old Courthouse Museum back in the 90s. We struck up a conversation with the proprietors and when we mentioned that we were on our honeymoon. They gave us a set of Salt and Pepper Shakers.I'm guessing they were trying to get rid of them as the shakers were not politically correct. They depicted a Black Kid eating a watermelon. P C was just coming into being about that time.

When the museum has things they can no longer use....

On the contrary, I think Gordon probably had a number of these and simply
gave them away as a gift or perhaps Polloco is correct.

In any case, Vicksburg in the 1990s was a whole different world and 2 decades away from today's obsession of political correctness.

Charles was in my graduating class in high school! I haven't had the time to make it back to town since he opened the museum, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it.
