Vicksburg meetup.

I want to do a meetup in Vicksburg sometime later this year. But at a time that would not interfere with the Chickamauga meetup. Any thoughts?
I would make every effort to make what ever date is best for the others, my trip is a long one but will include a stop at the wonderful Cottonlandia museum at Greenwood, Miss., to renew my acquaintance with the "Lady Polk." Last time I was there was July 2012 when the temp was in the 90's at Vicksburg and was 106 at Fort Donelson (no kidding)

. So if it is in the 80's when we meet I will bring my jacket.

Not to take this thread off-topic,but Greenwood,MS has been on my radar for awhile. Maybe I will try to find another thread already about it.

I'm deciding for myself whether to fly into either Lafayette or Memphis for this one.

I haven't been to Lafayette, Louisiana for years. But on the other hand I've always wanted to check out some of the Cottonlandia stuff.
Why not Baton Rouge? You could make a quick visit to Port Hudson too.

Fair point. Because I also want to see Camp Moore, Marksville, the Myrtles and the Windsor ruins.
How many days and which weekdays do you plan to be there? The museum at Camp Moore is only open Wed-Sat,from 10-3.

We've been in that area in December a couple of times and the weather was nice once and snowy the other. You need to get @7th Mississippi Infantry's input. He would know the best months for a visit.
Thanks Ellie !

My personal recommendations would be to visit Vicksburg during the months of April, May, June or October.

It will still be hot & humid, but not as brutal July, August & September.

Just my opinion.

I'd love to see Vicksburg. Agree with @7th Mississippi Infantry, Fall or Spring is best.

Sign me up!

I have been thinking the same thing. I mentioned it on another thread.

Looking over my work schedule. The end of August and first week of September work best for me!

August 28-September 7th.

Not just Vicksburg but all of Mississippi is tough during July, August and September! I would love to join up with everyone for a tour of the Vicksburg area as well as Natchez! I had the chance to meet with the Desert Kid during his recent sojourn through North Mississippi and Shiloh. I believe he may have picked up a taste for fried Catfish!

Let's set up a solid date and make plans.

I would have to echo Ole Miss and 7th. It can be brutal down here during those times, even for folks used to it. If folks are not used to it, the experience can be bad if not unhealthy.

I'm not sure if y'all are talking about a big event like is done at Gettysburg and is happening in Chickamauga or whether it's just a few of you guys wanting to do a quick Vicksburg trip. (I've reread the thread and can't figure it out).

Since I live down here and know the area, I'll be glad to offer any suggestions to anyone who is planning on coming down and who wants to know about places to see or eat etc.

Just let me know.

Think it would be great to meet others in the area with the same likes. Tour Vicksburg together and visit Natchez as well since it is just a wee bit down the road. Port Gibson is on the way and would be nice visit as well.
Regards
David
