While working with BD on getting the hotel nailed down for the Oct CWT gathering, I came across a quint little place right out of May 1863 that had the amenities we need and I need you to pick you room choice. It might be a deal breaker as they have no pool, meeting room or bar. On a serious note, This how the folks of Vicksburg lived during the siege.

 That's awesome! The captain of our group down here has a flyer he hands out whenever a young couple walks through camp. The Civil War Bed and Breakfast offering various accommodations. The economy room (dog tent) the moderate (A frame) and the deluxe (wall tent) It's pretty funny and has a whole sales pitch to go with it.

I'd need a Deluxe Single Room, is one available? :whistling:

That would definitely make a memorable stay out of the gathering, at the same time teaching about the civilian suffering during the siege. Are the caves still there and accessible?

The economy room (dog tent)
Would that be the half-tent a soldier carried with him on the march? Or the half-tent coupled with another half-tent from another soldier?

When I toured with Winschel years ago, I believe he said very few remain, and for the most part they aren't accessible other then by private invitation due to liability and dangerous conditions, ect

Cedar Grove here is more like the period lodging (it's also a Bed & Breakfast) I'd prefer:

When at the visitor center be sure to ask the folks behind the counter to show you the pictures of Huff's Cave - it was discovered about 10 or so years ago and someone from the park crawled inside it and took a bunch of pictures. Very neat.
Terry Winschel was the one who crawled into it. This is a photo that was taken of the interior as of three years ago. It is on the national register, and here is website with info about cave. https://www.apps.mdah.ms.gov/nom/prop/29426.pdf

I can DIG this kind of accommodation.!!!!!

If a 13 inch mortar shell puts a skylight in my room does that mean its an AIR bnb??????

I tried but they had no meeting room or bar.
Too bad, and I'm somewhat surprised - as I remember when I had dinner there I was by myself in what I thought was a fairly small sub-dining area I thought could be used for private parties as long as they weren't too big.

Unfortunately it has collapsed. The City Cemetery used to keep a path cut to it, but it had become so unstable in recent years, till they're afraid someone will get hurt in it.
Even without a cut path, could an adventurous visitor who knows where such a path would be wade through the weeds and get close enough to take a picture of the cave entrance?

You could, it's on the side of a hill in deep kudzu, so it's hard to find. But it is possible. The best time to see it is in winter.
