Oh I've spent enough time south of the Mason-Dixon line that I have acquired an appreciation for Cracker Barrel and Waffle House. (I do draw the line at grits, however. I'm an appreciative visitor, not a native!)
(RE Waffle House-- once when the Weather Channel hurricane center referred to the "Waffle House Index" of weather impact, I had to take some time explaining it to my wife, who spent most of her Marine career at Twenty-Nine Stumps and Miramar, where (I gather) Waffle House has not reached yet (or had not at that time). Having literally experienced this in the aftermath of Hurricane Fran, I didn't need any explanation beyond the use of the phrase.) (How do they do that, anyway? Does each Waffle House have its own emergency backup generator??)
