Made a solo trip to Vicksburg last weekend and took some photos, here are two. One view looking towards the Illinois monument from Pemberton Ave and the other looking from the Illinois towards Pemberton Ave.
Different lens on each shot.....the one of the Illinois monument was with a 70-200 lens, the view from the steps is a pano of 5 shots taken with a 24-70 lens stitched together in LR.
I have an attachment that connects to my camera and allows me to place it on an 18" retractable painters pole. Then I use a infared remote to fire the shutter.
My favorite area in the park is tour stop 5/10. The Stockade Redan attack/The Stockade Redan. The Confederate redan covered the Graveyard Rd approach into Vicksburg. After Champion Hill and The Big Black, Grant thought the Rebs were whipped and one more strong push would do them in, thus the attacks of May 19th and 22nd. Both Days the Union boys poured across the ravines to attack the redan with great loss.
Marker for Capt. Edward Washington of the 13th US Inf. You can see in the background the wide ravine that had to be crossed while under fire.
View from inside the redan where the 27th LA. was positioned.
This marks the farthest position the 127th Ill reached during the assaults. The redan is directly in the back ground and the Capt. Edward Washington markers can be seen on the right.
The Confederates also had batteries blasting away too. This is McNally's Battery and would have been pouring canister into the 13th US's right flank.
