My great great grandfather, in his 1864 Civil War diary, writes in December of boarding the May Flower (how he spelled it) in or around either Ft McAllister or Ft Pulaski (his description gets a little confusing so I'm not sure of the location. I read that the USS Mayflower wasn't built until 1866. Is that correct? If so, was there another ship used by that name in that area in 1864?

According to a snippet from The Encyclopedia of Civil War Shipwrecks, the May Flower was a 57 ton "screw steamer" that was built in 1864 in Muskegon, MI. It was lost on 11 November 1865 in the Detroit River.
